UCAH Seminar Series: Introduction to Manufacturing of Hard Metals & Air Vehicles by Dr. Heath Misak

Abstract:

This technical series will cover the introduction to manufacturing of air vehicles of interest to the UCAH audience.  Manufacturing techniques can be very similar to commercial airplanes, however distinct elements can be contrasted.  These contrasting elements will be discus.  Specific manufacturing practices will be introduced related to additive and subtractive manufacturing, joining, forming, assembly, and post processing.  AI in manufacturing is gaining interest, so brief conceptual deep learning discussion utilizing manufacturing practices will be taught.   In completion of the talk, air vehicle configurations at an introductory level will be discussed, manufacturing practice contrasting notable elements, and perform a conceptional manufacturing deep learning exercise.

Dr. Heath Misak Bio:
Technical Fellow, Spirit AeroSystems, Inc.

Dr. Heath Misak began his career with Spirit in 2016 and brought with him 15 years of academic and industry experience. He has published over 78 journal articles in the areas of advanced materials with a citation index over 20. He has work with government, universities and industry on multiple grants, partnerships, and industry funded opportunities. In 2022, Dr. Misak earned admission into Spirit Technical Fellowship for his expertise in Metallic Fabrication and Advanced Joining.   At Spirit, Dr Misak is leading efforts in advanced joining, high temperature metals, additive manufacturing, cost reduction of metal forming, while still meeting tolerancing, mechanical and physical properties, and specification requirements. Dr. Misak strives every day to foster excellent relationships with Government, University, and Industry partners to take our civilization to the next level in sustainable manufacturing, higher performing vehicles, and unmatched social collaborations.
